Exterior Class A Fires

Exterior Class A fires may involve only a small storage shed or stack of wood, but they are still subject to unpredictable changes in weather, wind speed, and wind direction. Additionally, exterior fire sites such as dumpsters and storage sheds often house hazardous materials and materials that produce harmful combustion products.
This program will provide an overview of how to identify, approach, and fight exterior Class A fires. It describes the different types of materials that may be present in an exterior Class A fire, as well as the potential hazards associated with these materials. It also describes warning signs of non-Class A material involvement. Finally, the program discusses strategies and tactics for extinguishment and overhaul of exterior Class A fires, including the appropriate hose streams and extinguishing agents to use in different situations.
