Firefighters fight fire aggressively AND can prevent cancer aggressively.
Many firefighters are aware of the elevated incidence of cancer and cancer mortality in the fire service. Unfortunately, there remains a gap between known best practices and their implementation. This course aims to address the gap by educating the fire service on how occupational exposures drive biological mechanisms that increase cancer risk. Firefighter cancer research findings from Southern California will demonstrate what carcinogens are in the firefighting environment, what firefighters are exposed to, and the effects of these exposures.
