Upon arriving on the scene of a fire, multiple predictions must be made in order to form a firefighting strategy. From outside the building there are many things you cannot see. Where is the seat of the fire? What type of building construction is this? How long has the fire been burning? Where will the fire move and how fast? You are making predictions that cannot be confirmed. The problem is, the wrong predictions could unnecessarily place firefighters in a deadly situation, or dangerously close to it.
