RTG Earthquake Response: Urban Search and Rescue

Following an earthquake, fire companies will be working alongside other departments and agencies to prioritize and respond to what may be an overwhelming array of emergencies.

This lesson will demonstrate the changing priorities as companies are subsequently assigned to respond to specific emergencies and how they use and build on the windshield survey data while performing search and rescue activities at a collapsed structure.

RTG Earthquake Response: Windshield Survey

In the aftermath of an earthquake or other large-scale disaster, it is critical for responders to share intelligence with their partners in other agencies and coordinate their efforts to resolve the highest-priority hazards first. ESRI’s ArcGIS Survey123 is one application that many departments in the Los Angeles region are adopting to gather real-time data.

The training and accompanying drill activities will help firefighters prepare to enact earthquake mode procedures, conduct effective critical facility assessments, and utilize the capabilities of new technologies.
