One critical role firefighters play in their communities is identifying potential arson crimes. Firefighters need to be aware of suspicious indicators and understand the investigation process. Over the last 20 years, one-third of all domestic violent extremist attacks were arson attacks.
This course will help fire service members recognize the prevalence of arson, understand the importance of not overlooking the cause and origin of a fire, recognize common arson tactics, identify clues that could indicate a potential crime scene, and demonstrate the proper procedure for handling evidence and preserving a crime scene.
