RTG Bomb Incident Response

Explosions can be caused by a wide array of factors and occur with relative frequency. Many explosions are accidental and cause limited damage and few injuries. Some explosions, such as those that are the result of criminal or terrorist bombs, can be devastating. Such intentional explosions, known as bombings, involve the unlawful use of components and energetic materials to produce the sudden and violent release of energy, and frequently shrapnel, aimed at inflicting maximum damage on people, property, or both. Bombings have been used extensively against a broad range of audiences and targets and have produced thousands of deaths and millions in property losses.

Response to a bombing incident is high-risk and presents a host of unknowns. Quickly identifying indicators that an explosion was caused by a bomb, followed by appropriate operational decisions, can be lifesaving.

This training will provide participants with operational considerations aimed at improving their performance and safety when responding to bombing incidents.
