Although petrochemical incidents rarely occur, the consequences can be devastating. This lesson will help fire service members understand the threats and challenges involved in pipeline and tank farm incidents, recognize and interface with local facilities and outside resources, and prepare an approach and access strategy.
The overarching goal of this lesson is to help fire service members increase their operational readiness for possible petrochemical hazmat incidents involving pipelines or at a bulk storage facility such as a tank farm.
Note that this course is the first in a two-part Petrochemical Incidents series:
This course introduces the challenges associated with petrochemical incidents and encourages preplanning for facilities within first-in districts.
The second course builds on these concepts and applies them to the unique challenges of petrochemical refineries.
