RTG Fireground Predictions (Part 2): Fire Dynamics

Upon arriving on the scene of a fire, multiple predictions must be made in order to form a firefighting strategy. From outside the building there are many things you cannot see. Judgements made on the fireground are educated guesses based on firefighters’ familiarity with the structures in their community, as well as their knowledge of fire dynamics. Where is the seat of the fire? What type of building construction is this? How long has the fire been burning? Where will the fire move and how fast? The problem is, the wrong predictions could unnecessarily place firefighters in a deadly situation, or dangerously close to it.
