Within Los Angeles County there are over 70 miles of coastline and numerous lakes, reservoirs, and other bodies of water. Missing swimmers and capsized boats are frequent emergencies in the region but regular firefighter training for water rescues is uncommon.
This training will encourage more consistent firefighter preparation for these incidents. Learners will develop better awareness of their capabilities and limitations in and near the water and improve their ability to coordinate a fire response with the Coast Guard, County Lifeguards, and other agencies.
