RTG Compressed Natural Gas Technology

Compressed natural gas (CNG) is an eco-friendly alternative to gasoline or diesel fuel that is becoming more popular in both commercial and non-commercial vehicles.

This poses a challenge for firefighters because CNG can present significant hazards during a vehicle fire or other vehicle emergency, compared to conventional fuel types. Firefighters must change their approach to vehicle fires in order to ensure safety for themselves and for the public.

This lesson will explore important concerns for firefighters: identifying CNG vehicles; performing risk assessment during emergencies involving CNG vehicles; and recommendations for adjusting response tactics to account for the potential hazards of CNG.
